Russell Dickerson and Thomas Rhett may have started out as friends, but now the two have packed up to hit the road with one another on Rhett’s headlining Home Team Tour. Looking to take the next step in his career, Dickerson called upon Rhett for some experienced advice to guide him through.

While Dickerson has spent his time on and off the road for a steady handful of years, the opportunity to play alongside artists like songstress Kelsea Ballerini and fellow Country newcomer Ryan Hurd made him open his eyes to learning a few tricks of the trade when it comes to his own set. Thankfully, Rhett led him in the right direction during some of their double dates with their wives.

“Anytime we’re at their house, it’s kind of inevitable to talk about the music business, but anytime we’re there he’s obviously a couple years ahead of me and his knowledge of radio and being signed to a major label and all of that stuff, I just soak it all up and I wanna hear as many opinions as I can on it and then I can make the best decision regarding anything. So yeah, I definitely get tons of advice from him that is invaluable,” Dickerson recently told Sounds Like Nashville in a phone interview.

At the end of the day though, Rhett and Dickerson go far enough back that the “Yours” singer is just excited to get to hang with someone he looks up to and gets along with very well.

“We’ve written before on the road and we got such good stuff,” Dickerson said. “He told me, ‘Dude I’m so glad that you’ll be out there so we can all write.’”

Dickerson is currently opening up for Rhett on the Home Team Tour, hitting cities across the nation this spring. Fans can find out more information about tour dates and purchasing tickets on Dickerson’s website.
