After taking some well-deserved time off over the past few months, Sam Hunt is making his way back into the country music scene by sending hints out to fans about his new music on the way.

The singer traveled up to the festivities going on at the 102nd Indy 500 race in Indiana to perform a live show for the obliging visitors in the audience. While he brought out some tracks from his previous record, Montevallo, he also followed the trend of putting some fresh sounds out to the crowd by playing “Nothing Lasts Forever” for the first time.

Turning the title into a play-on-words, Hunt spun the actual meaning of the phrase to make it clear that he doesn’t want to be just ‘nothing’ in an ex-lover’s life. The commitment of forever for someone like the singer doesn’t match up to what he wants to be in that person’s life, which is to live separately from their memory rather than the rest of his days.

He even promised to fans that a recorded version of “Nothing Lasts Forever” will soon be coming to their speakers in due time.

At this time, Hunt hasn’t divulged any information on a sophomore album in the works. He gave a sneak preview at what to expect, though, by sending off “Downtown’s Dead” as his next country radio single for the summer.

Hunt will take the stage to perform his new music at the 2018 CMT Music Awards, which broadcast live on Wednesday, June 6, at 8 p.m. EST on CMT.
