Sam Hunt Revives American Classic with ‘This Land is Your Land’ on ‘Bright’ Soundtrack

Sam Hunt kicked off 2017 with a bang, releasing “Drinking Too Much” and “Body Like a Back Road” out to fans as a taste of what’s to come for his second album. Closing things out on a more solemn note, Hunt took a page out of the patriotic playbook by covering “This Land is Your Land” on the soundtrack for the Netflix film, Bright.

Adding his crisp and clear vocals to the American favorite, the country singer dramatically sings the powerful words that citizens know and love over what almost sounds like an a capella track. As the climax builds up throughout each  verse, Hunt establishes a dominating performance that highlights his abilities not typically heard through his spoken word vibe on his previous releases.

The song also creates a poignant moment on the album, as it stands by one of the calmest songs overall with a slow and steady melody compared to the heavy hip-hop influence on the other tracks. Hunt joins a star-studded list of artists on the Bright soundtrack though, next to names like Camila Cabello, alt-J, Steve Aoki, Ty Dolla $ign and many more.

Hunt took more of the year off to focus on his personal life over his professional endeavors. After hitting the big time No. 1 spot with “Body Like a Back Road,” he decided to tie the knot with on-again, off-again girlfriend Hannah Lee Fowler, in an intimate ceremony held back in Hunt’s hometown. The two kept their relationship on the hush-hush side of things for the most part, traveling and hanging out at home to enjoy all that married life has to offer.

The singer did spend his summer out on the road, though, selling out shows during his 15 in a 30 Tour in the summer months. Many fans anticipate another possible tour and maybe even new music from the star in the new year approaching.
