The opportunity to tour with Luke Bryan during the summer of 2018 was one that Sam Hunt couldn’t pass up. Though the chance to open for the What Makes You Country Tour postponed his return to the studio, the Georgia native was thrilled to be invited out on the road with one of country music’s biggest stars for both personal and professional reasons.

“I really like Luke, first off,” explained Hunt during the 2018 CMA Music Festival. “I’ve always been impressed with the way he carries himself and authenticity that he is, personality. He’s from Georgia so his personality, his sense of humor, his demeanor is very familiar to me because I’m from Georgia so I feel like I could’ve gone to high school with Luke.”

Aside of personal reasons to join Bryan on the road, learning from a touring master was a chance the “Downtown’s Dead” singer had to take.

“Watching his career over the past several years, he’s really taken on that position as one of the two or three faces of country music in the modern era,” he continued. “He’s done a really great job growing his fan base and doing what he does. So, it’s been cool to be a part of the guy’s, you know, what is kind of the peak of his, of course he’s been at the peak for the last several years, but I feel like he’s at the top of his game so to be a part of the face of country music is pretty cool.”

Bryan was equally as excited to have Hunt join him out on the road when he announced the stadium leg of his tour, by sharing that he felt he had to “bring it” every night to keep up with his openers.

The What Makes You Country Tour will run through October 2018, with dates hitting stadiums and arenas nationwide.
