Scotty McCreery Talks New Music, Return To ‘American Idol’

When Scotty McCreery parted ways with his label last month, fans were concerned about whether or not they’d get to hear all the new music the North Carolina native has been working on. Despite the setback, McCreery is still determined to get his new music to fans.

“We’re always working on new music,” McCreery told Sounds Like Nashville. “Always writing and trying to find that next idea. That next song. I’ve got plenty of songs in the can. I think we’ve got about 10 songs in the can and we’re trying to figure out which ones will make the record and still got to put a few more on there, but hopefully end of the year sometime I’ll have a record.”

With a new record on the way, the American Idol winner wants to channel the music he grew up listening to. “If I had to say if it was leaning one way or the other, it’s probably leaning a step or two back towards the stuff I grew up on. A little more traditional, whether that be lyrically or sonically or musically.”

McCreery also opened up about his past five years in the music industry and what it meant to return to Idol to duet with several of the final season’s contestants. Check it out in the video above.
