ACM New Artist of the Year Scotty McCreery recently made a major life decision.

The “Water Tower Town” singer has revealed plans to attend North Carolina State University in the fall.

“There were a lot of good schools in Nashville, but I’ve decided to head down to Raleigh where my dad went to college at N.C. State, at least for two years, and maybe transfer to Nashville then,” McCreery tells CMT Radio Live. “I’m excited. I’ve got some boys going there and some friends. We’ll have a good time.”

N.C. State Director of Admissions, Thomas Griffin, admits Scotty’s admission to the school was a bit unusual for the school.

“I don’t know of anybody coming in so well known initially,” Griffin tells Entertainment Weekly. Most 18-year-olds don’t have the kind of exposure that someone like Mr. McCreery has.”

Congratulations to Scotty McCreery, the newest member of the Wolfpack!
