The ‘Summer of Shania’ has officially begun!

After waiting (im)patiently for 15 years to hear new music, Shania Twain’s new single “Life’s About to Get Good” has it the airwaves of country radio and digital streaming everywhere. The track was officially released Thursday morning (6/14) after months of anticipation from fans and the singer herself. The empowering track was solely written by Twain herself, who shares that the song is giving a deeper look into her personal story of tribulation and triumph.

“The very first lyric, I wasn’t just broken I was shattered. Like, this just doesn’t get any worse in my mind and emotionally. But then the chorus is really catchy and there’s the irony of all these happy, cheerful voices in there and the craft of the song itself. Life’s about this, life’s about that, life’s about to get good,” Twain told Sounds Like Nashville and other media recently. “I think it’s just a more complete picture of me as an artist. It’s a more complete picture. There’s an extra element there that it’s deeper into my story, my personal story, but it’s still the same songwriter.”

While much of the inspiration of the track stems from her own life, Twain hopes fans are able to put their own stories on the track and transform any bad day into a good one after hearing the chirpy song.

“Every time I hear the song it makes me happy. As many times now as I’ve heard the song… it still just picks me up when I hear it. It just cheers me up and it makes me feel good. So what I’m looking forward to is that effect on the listener,” she shared. “I want them to enjoy the twists in the words and just think it’s a cool, fun song. It’s a true story and it’s a story of depth with a smile. And I think it’s just a really good way to get started again.”

Much like the new single, the rest of the tracks on Twain’s upcoming album, Now, were written entirely by the singer on her own. The songs began as ideas and molded into what they’ve become, with the Canada native having her hands touch every aspect of the product, from writing to production to arrangements. The experience left her feeling “empowered” and ready for the next step, whatever that may be.

“Once the tour was over, the last tour, I said, ‘I’m feeling really strong and I’m just going to write this album myself. I’m not bringing in any other writers,’ because I thought I would write to a point and say, ‘Okay, you know, I’ll probably end up co-writing some of this and really make everything as good as it can be.’ But I was empowered at the end of that last tour. Not enough to commit to touring again but enough to write the album myself,” Twain recalled. “That’s just turned out so well. I’m feeling more empowered, I think, than I’ve ever felt in my whole life.”

“Life’s About To Get Good” is the lead single from Shania Twain’s first album in 15 years, Now, set for release on September 29. Fans can pre-order the standard 12-track album or a deluxe 16-track album now.
