The 51st Annual CMA Awards featured many surprising moments throughout the star-studded evening, but perhaps one of the night’s most shocking events was the on-stage reunion of Sugarland.

Kristian Bush and Jennifer Nettles, who previously performed together as the duo Sugarland, came together on the Bridgestone Arena stage to present the CMA Vocal Duo of the Year award to Brothers Osborne.

“Funny seeing you here,” Nettles said as she took the stage with Bush.

“It feels like we’ve been here before,” he joked.

“We’re here to present the CMA Award that we won together in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 … and, well, who knows?” Nettles added, leaving fans wondering if she was in fact teasing a real Sugarland reunion.

The pair stopped performing together in 2012, shortly after Nettles became a mother.

Bush confirmed the duo’s separation telling The Boot, “Jennifer and I are not finished making records. We know that. We’re excited and this a great time to take a little bit of a breather because she’s got to figure out being a mom. We’ve been on the road for a very long time, so there’s no reason we shouldn’t take a little time off.”

A little time off turned into five years. During that time, Nettles released two solo albums and a solo Christmas record, while Bush also released his solo record and produced several other projects.

Bush and Nettles’ appearance brings up many questions, the biggest being if they will bring Sugarland back to record or perform together. While nothing has been confirmed, we have a feeling fans will welcome Sugarland back with open arms if they ever decide to reunite as a duo.

Further fueling fans’ hopes of an even bigger reunion, Sugarland’s Instagram was wiped clean, only showing a single photo from the CMA Awards with the hashtag #StilltheSame.
