“They’re all based on true stories and being that I’m a hillbilly, I got a lot to talk about,” Thompson laughed.

Spitfire country newcomer Tara Thompson is quickly making a name for herself with her sassy debut single, “Someone To Take Your Place.”

The self-proclaimed “hillbilly” from East Tennessee just released her debut EP, featuring five songs, all of which she co-wrote. “They’re all based on true stories and being that I’m a hillbilly, I got a lot to talk about,” Thompson told Sounds Like Nashville recently. “So I just mix in my inspirations, mixed in with my families, and we’ll just say that holidays are a little awkward sometimes.”

And while she may spend her time singing the true stories from her life, it’ll take a lot more to get her to sing a slow, love song.

“I have a lot of quirky songs. I like to make people laugh,” she explained. “I don’t hate love songs. I just don’t really want to sing about ‘em. ‘Jail’ is my only one. I kind of want to do a Prison Tour one day, so I figured I might as well go out with a bang if I’m going to do a love song. My hook line is ‘Love me like you just got out of jail.’ If that doesn’t tell you much about me, I’m not sure what will.”
