Monday, August 1 was ‘Comeback Day’ for sibling trio The Band Perry. The occasion was marked by the release of their first single in nearly a year, “Comeback Kid.” The uplifting track was written by by Kimberly Perry, Reid Perry, and Neil Perry, and was co-produced by the siblings alongside Benny Cassette.

For TBP, “Comeback Kid” not only represents their return to radio, but also tells the story of what they’ve been through over the course of the past year. Having nearly disappeared from the limelight and parting ways with longtime record label, Republic Nashville, The Band Perry decided to comeback and let their music tell their side of the story.

“It was really important to us on ‘Comeback Kid’ that we told the real life narrative of everything that we’ve been thinking and feeling over the past year,” Kimberly shared with Sounds Like Nashville and other media on Monday.

When we sat down with the trio one-on-one, Kimberly further explained the inspiration behind the song.

“Sometimes when a band goes quiet, there are all these other voices that start trying to tell their version of your story and on one hand that was a painful thing, from time to time, for people to be questioning our intentions or just making them up. And we talked about it and we were like, ‘I mean we could come to our own defense or we could just let our actions speak louder than our words and prove it in the best way that we know how.’ And that’s with a brand new song,” she said.

The fans’ response to the song has already been overwhelming, and that’s something the band couldn’t be more proud of.

“Every time we’re making a new album, we’re thinking like ‘will these songs be like a soundtrack for our fans lives?’ I’ve already seen some stories, like there was one town that got ravaged by a tornado and so she was like ‘this is for all the Comeback Kids in my entire town,’” Kimberly recalled.

The Grammy-winning trio told press that they were just a few mixes away from completing their new album. With the new music and next phase in their career, the band promises to be an open book.

“One of the biggest things that we wanted to do in this next phase for the band is show complete transparency, hence the 24-hour live chat that’s super into our world and what we’re wearing, the white and the nude colors,” explained Neil. “Visuals mean a lot, you know, it holds hands with the music and these colors sort of show rebirth and that something’s come back new again.”
