Thomas Rhett Appreciates Constructive Criticism From Rhett Akins

Thomas Rhett and Rhett Akins

Thomas Rhett has certainly made an impressive debut at country radio. With hits like “It Goes Like This,” “Get Me Some Of That,” and his latest smash, “Make Me Wanna,” the 24-year-old is on his way to becoming a country superstar. It’s no surprise that he’s doing so well though, considering his father is singer/songwriter Rhett Akins.

On one hand, Thomas has a lot to live up to following in the footsteps of his father, but on the other, he has a great role model to look up to and learn from. That’s one of the reasons why he enjoys having his dad come out on the road with him. Although Akins may be Thomas’s biggest fan, he’s sometimes his biggest critic.

“Every time Dad comes to the show you can guarantee that he’ll be at front of house at the beginning, and then backstage when we get off stage,” Thomas shares. “And the first thing I’ll be is like, ‘What’d you think?’ And he’ll either say it was awesome or got a list of things that I ‘shoulda done better or set list should’ve been different.”

He can always count on feedback from his father, but he appreciates all of it – good or bad. “I’ve learned so much from him. Man, he really is a pro. It’s cool that not only he’s my dad but he’s a really good friend, and that we can write songs together and goof-off together and play shows together. So it’s a cool relationship.”

Fans can catch Thomas Rhett on the road with Miranda Lambert throughout the summer.
