Thomas Rhett Compares Adopting Internationally to an ‘Emotional Rollercoaster’
Thomas Rhett’s family is expanding, and their hearts are growing in an international way.
Rhett and his wife decided to make the big jump in adopting a child from Africa when they got the surprise news that Lauren was also pregnant. While the two continued the process of adoption despite their one new addition to the family, Rhett admitted that the heart-wrenching process isn’t the easiest trial to go through for anyone.
“I’ll describe it in a way of not saying too many details because there’s just a lot of things that were extremely hard and a little tough to talk about. The process of adopting someone from a different country is really, really strenuous. You find out a lot about yourself when you’re over there and you and your wife are staying in a hotel room for a month and a half and you wake up and you think you’re gonna get some news and you don’t get it or you don’t think you’re gonna get some news and you do get it,” he explained to Sounds Like Nashville and other media at a recent event.
Despite facing many setbacks and having to deal with the constant back-and-forth system of it all, the payoff was worth it in the end to be blessed with the answered prayer they’ve been working for all along: a child to call their own.
“Really, the best way I can describe the adopting process is an emotional rollercoaster. But in the end, all of it is for a good thing and you just have to realize you’re adopting a human being, so you know that those people that are going to let her into your care want to know that you really are a stand-up person and you can support this child. So I understand how tough they make it for you to see how bad you really want it. But it is really hard. But we’re finally over that hump and cannot wait to get our child home,” he gladly said.
