While Thomas Rhett has a lot of experience from both his upbringing and his own career in music, he still looks to the words from his wife to determine if his songs are headed in the right direction.

As the old story goes, wives always know best. Rhett takes that to heart whenever he creates new music because throughout all of the professional advice he gets from his colleagues, he always leans towards his wife, Lauren’s, opinion on what he is about to put out. According to Rhett, she tells it like it is and that’s what he loves about her take on his sound.

“Lauren is so funny because Lauren is kind of a genre-less person, which is probably where I get it from,” he explained recently. “She doesn’t see these lines. It is either a good song or a bad song. Lauren gets bored very easily. She’s not one of those of people that I could go play a song like ‘The Chair’ to and her be entertained. She’s like “eh, whatever.” There’s nothing wrong with that. I look at her like I look at 80% of my female fans, so if Lauren digs this song, I’m pretty certain that most every other girl her age is going to dig this song. So I tried to make this album as fun as I possibly could and if I am gonna cut it, if I was gonna cut a ballad, it had to be something she thoroughly enjoyed. Like ‘Die a Happy Man,’ obviously she loved it, it’s about her. She can’t not like that. But even a song like ‘The Day You Stop Lookin’ Back’ which is really slow. She loves Jaren Johnston. She loves The Cadillac Three. It probably had a lot to do with that, that he wrote that song, but it’s one of my favorite songs on the record. So she had a lot of influence on it.”

The unbiased ideas that Lauren adds to the mix definitely provides Rhett with a solid outlook on what to release and uses that whenever he puts out a new single. With his latest single, “Star of the Show,” though, it’s hard to know if his wife had a spin on that one.

Rhett is gearing up to head out on a mini-European tour in November and fans can purchase tickets for his headlining tour starting next year through his website now.
