Ever wish you could just rewind back in time to the simpler days when you could live without a care in the world? Thomas Rhett knows that feeling all too well, and expresses it in a nostalgic manner, throughout his new song, “Sixteen.”

Rhett captured the openly free spirit of being young again in his new instant grat track, featured on his upcoming album called Life Changes. Escaping back in his mind to the days of learning how to drive to opening up his first legal beer, the country singer reminisces on the sweet taste of growing up and living life without fear of the future.

“As a kid, you can’t wait to grow up and reach that next milestone, but when you’re older, you look back and wish you could just be 16, or 18 or 21 again,” Rhett told the Huffington Post about the song.

It’s not all heartbreak over the loss of those years, though; Rhett happily accepts his present state alongside the love of his life and watching his dreams come true musically in the final optimistic verse.

Thinking about the past has Rhett ready for his future falling immediately into his lap. He and his wife, Lauren, adopted a gorgeous little girl from Africa and recently became parents once again with the birth of their daughter Ada James. Experiencing all that fatherhood has to offer on top of the upcoming release of a new album, Rhett won’t be taking any time off to himself from here on out.

“Sixteen” joins two of the many tracks featured on Life Changes, including “Unforgettable” and his No. 1 duet with Maren Morris, “Craving You.” Fans can hear even more of the project on the way when it debuts on September 8.
