Thompson Square Gets By With a Little Help From Their Friends

Country duo and real-life married couple Thompson Square recently had an adorable addition to their family, a baby boy named Cooper. A little one may pose some dilemmas as to how he can keep his mom and dad company while they are out traveling on the road, but Thompson Square didn’t have to look too far for some help.

“I think he’s a little road dog, I think I’m afraid he’s gonna wind up being a musician,” Shawna Thompson tells Sounds Like Nashville about Cooper. “We did a show with Little Big Town just a few months before he was born and we were like ‘hey, we’re freaking out here, we don’t know what to do with the bus and how do we need to handle that.’ They gave us some pointers, and we’ve used some of them with his crib and things like that on the bus. So we took their advice to heart.”

The country music community is filled with artists who have children of their own. Every musician makes it work best for them, and Thompson Square says their situation is no different.

“There’s no advice anybody can give you, you have to figure it out on your own, because everyone says they have it figured out, but nobody has it figured out,” Kiefer Thompson adds. “You have to make it work for your family and so that’s what we do and it’s working out great. The parental instincts are real and they kick in.”

Jana Kramer is another artist venturing into the world of parenthood. During a recent impromptu play date, they documented what might have been love at first sight between the two youngsters of Kramer and the Thompsons.

“It was the first time Cooper had been around another baby and we put them on the couch together and just kind of let them do their thing,” Shawna comments about the adorable snapshot. “Within seconds he was hitting on her, putting his arm around her and we were all running for our phones to get pictures.”

Thompson Square recently released the single, “You Make It Look So Good,” which documents life as a growing family. The music video is a montage of moments captured since Cooper was brought home, we highly suggest you watch it for an easy smile.

The duo is in the studio working on new material, but a release date for a new album is yet to be announced.
