Little Big Town is one of country music’s biggest names right now with a catalogue full of chart-topping hits and a slew of awards to go with them. But just as any artist, the group had to start somewhere and it just happened to be in the “Boondocks.”

The group came to be in 1998 and after seven years of patience, three different record labels and two unsuccessful singles, the quartet comprised of Karen Fairchild, Jimi Westbrook, Kimberly Schlapman and Phillip Sweet proved their worth with the release of their top 10 hit “Boondocks.”

The foot-tapping track was released in May of 2005 on Equity Music Group, a label started by country legend Clint Black and was featured on their second full-length album, The Road to Here. All four group members alternate between harmonies and lead vocals on the anthem that boasts of rural-pride.

“I feel no shame/I’m proud of where I came from/I was born and raised in the boondocks/One thing I know/No matter where I go/I keep my heart and soul in the boondocks,” the chorus croons.

After climbing the country airplay charts for weeks, “Boondocks” peaked at No. 9 in January of 2006. Since then, the single has been certified platinum for selling 1 million units.

Little Big Town found their voice in “Boondocks” and have continued to grow since then. Their next landmark single hit radio in 2010, “Little White Church” with “Pontoon” following two years later, the latter becoming their first No.1 hit.

This past week (Feb. 20), Little Big Town earned their latest chart-topping hit with “Better Man,” the lead single off their forthcoming album The Breaker, which is slated for release this Friday (Feb. 24).
