Throwback Thursday: Remember When a Long-Haired Eric Church Put on a Tailgate Concert?

Before Eric Church was selling our arenas and amphitheaters, he was just a long-haired musician happy to play his music for anybody that would listen.

Back in 2007, without his signature leather jacket and aviator sunglasses, he put the tailgate down on his truck and sat down with his acoustic guitar to perform an impromptu concert for bystanders.

He pulled out some of his best songs for the performance, songs that we today might consider Church classics. Included on the list are “Those I Loved Along the Way,” “Two Pink Lines,” “Guys Like Me” and the song we featured above, “Living Part of Life.”

“So tomorrow I’m takin’ me fishin’/Hang a sign on the door of my life/Tell the world that I’ve gone missin’/An’ I won’t be back for a while/I’m so tired of only wishin’/I could leave my troubles behind/I wanna be front porch rockin’/With a big sun droppin’ in a blue sky/Kick back an’ get high/On the livin’ part of life,” he sings in the chorus.

We see a softer side of the country rebel in these videos, joking and laughing along with his audience while he provides commentary throughout the tracks. His development of an artist has come a long way since this video was recorded. But either way we still love us some Church music, no matter what year it’s from.

The “Kill a Word” singer is gearing up to embark on his 2017 Holdin’ My Own Tour that kicks off this January. The trek will take him cross country before ending with two shows in Music City. Church is the only performer on the bill, opting out of having anyone open for him.

Before then, Church will be at the 2016 CMA Awards where he is up for five honors, including Male Vocalist of the Year, Single of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year. He sure has come a long way since his tailgate days.
