Nothing goes better together than Christmas and Blake Shelton, or at least that was the case in 2012 when the country star had his very own holiday show, Blake Shelton’s Not So Family Christmas.

The hour-long television program premiere coincided with his yuletide album, Cheers, It’s Christmas. Songs from the record were sung throughout show with guests including Kelly Clarkson, Reba McEntire, his then-wife Miranda Lambert and his own mother Dorothy Shackleford.

“I love Christmas music,” Shelton said of his time spreading holiday cheer to home viewers. “I listen to it year-round. I had always wanted to do a Christmas album, so getting to do ‘Cheers, It’s Christmas’ was exciting for me, and then to have NBC let me do a special around the CD, well, I still can’t believe it. I am so proud of the performances on the show, the skits are hilarious and the icing on the cake was having the opportunity to perform with my mom, a song we co-wrote together.”

As you can guess, the variety show was not lacking in laughs. Shelton got the good times rolling right away when he donned an elf costume – complete with red tights – to sing “Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire.”

Christina Aguilera, Larry the Cable Guy and Jay Leno stopped by the set for comedy sketches that had viewers in tears from laughing so hard, including a fake The Voice promo where Shelton attempts to sell a knockoff of his famed coach’s chair to Aguilera.

The “A Guy With a Girl” added sentiment to the special by singing Country classics as well as a heart-wrenching tune, “Time For Me To Come Home,” a duet with his mother that sends the important reminder to make time for your family during this holiday season.

There is yet to be another Shelton Christmas special, but there’s always next year.
