Close your eyes and think back to the fall of 2012. You’ll probably remember the presidential election, the passing of legendary Whitney Houston, The Hunger Games was released to theaters and you more than likely had Florida Georgia Line’s debut single, “Cruise,” constantly stuck in your head.

Some artists have to wait years and multiple attempts to have one of their songs reach the top of country radio airplay charts and find themselves winning awards. Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard took a different approach when they stepped on the country music scene and sent “Cruise” soaring up the country charts and breaking records along the way.

As Florida Georgia Line is gearing up to release their third studio album, Dig Your Roots, it’s time to look back at the phenomenon that kick started their career. The summery track held reign at the top of the country radio airplay charts just 19 weeks after it made its first appearance then continued to spend three weeks there without budging. “Cruise” also spent 24 weeks atop the Hot Country Songs chart, the longest time any artist has ever logged in the chart’s history.

“Cruise” is the top selling country song in history, followed by Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now.” The song has been RIAA certified Diamond, the first country song to achieve this status, for selling and streaming over 10 million copies. Over 7 million people have purchased this record breaking song.

The duo’s smash hit lead them to a career filled with multiple CMA and ACM awards as well as nine No. 1 singles.

Now we’re sure since you’re just about done reading this, “Cruise” stuck in your head once again and we’re very sorry for that, but that just means you have to go buy Dig Your Roots to let another signature Florida Georgia Line tune one pop in there.
