Throughout the many shooting tragedies that have occurred in the country over the past few years, Tim McGraw continues to support gun reform and applauded DICK’s Sporting Goods when they made the big leap forward to stop distribution of assault rifles and other similar products.

In a tweet posted to their official account on February 28, DICK’s laid out new standards that the company stood behind to prevent further violent incidences from happening. The announcement stated that the franchise would no longer sell assault-style rifles or high-capacity magazines and reassured that they have never and never will sell bump stocks.

Their stores will also refused to let anyone under the age of 21 buy a gun or related products under their latest release. Immediately, McGraw stood behind DICK’s for their powerful changes and even gave notice to other companies that plan on taking similar actions when it comes to gun sales.

“Thank you @DICKS for taking a stand to promote a meaningful discussion for the safety of our kids!  @Walmart, @kroger, and @LLBean too,” he wrote on Twitter with a retweet of the original announcement from the retailer.

After the Parkland shooting happened, the singer expressed how proud he was of the students that raised their voices in support of gun control. McGraw also mentioned a friend of a friend lost his life that day, propelling his position even more so.

“I learned one of the teachers who was shot in Florida at Stoneman Douglas, Scott Beigel, was a friend of one of my associates – they were camp counselors together.  What an amazing man who lost his life protecting the children.  That is a true hero.  And I’m deeply moved by these students who are lifting their voices – challenging us to listen, learn, and make real changes. #NeverAgain,” McGraw said on Instagram.

Outside of his opinions on the gun debate, McGraw will prepare himself for the summer dates on the Soul2Soul Tour with Faith Hill.
