Trace Adkins knows how to lay down the law, so he took his power to make a statement shutting down all the fake accounts pretending to be him through social media.

After hearing about several incidences with his fans about online requests and money scams, the country singer went on the record to say he only uses his verified accounts for all news related to him on the Internet. He also confirmed that he never uses the direct message feature spread throughout social media, and doesn’t plan to start communicating with his fanbase in that way any time soon.

“I can’t believe I’m having to do this, but I just wanted to take a minute to let you know that there are a lot of imposter accounts out there on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pretending to be me. Please do not engage with these people or send them money. I do not communicate personally on those platforms through direct messages and I don’t request to follow anyone. Everything from me only lives on my official page, @traceadkins,” he told his fans in the clip.

Adkins also described how to tell if his account is legitimate or not. For those going against his advice, Adkins made it clear that he wouldn’t tolerate jokesters by blocking them from any contact with his pages.

“Please make sure to check for the blue checkmark on the profile. Imposter accounts will not have that checkmark. And one more thing, if you’ve been blocked by me, it’s because I thought you were being mean. Thank you,” Adkins said to the camera plainly.

Many people commented with their own stories, with a specific supporter of Adkins claiming she almost got caught up in some scammer’s plot to take her money through an account using his name.

“I bet in an average week I get about 25 requests from someone pretending to be you. I even had one request I send him money directly for the USO. I was born at night but not last night Of course I report all. The scammers the fakes whatever you want to call them. God bless you,” one fan wrote after Adkins warned his followers against any fake accounts.
