As the battle rounds came to a close on this season of The Voice, the competition didn’t let up as the coaches set their rosters in stone for the next step of the journey.

Dallas Caroline and Spensha Baker from Team Blake Shelton brought their A-game to Maren Morris’ “I Could Use a Love Song” as they challenged each other vocally through their verses back-and-forth. While Caroline showed hesitation in her pop-toned voice, Baker cut through the nerves with her country soul and embodied the ballad’s message.

The coaches saw the potential in Caroline’s voice, in which they commented that she took the song by the reins to the best of her ability and controlled her tempo. Baker, on the other hand, earned the great praise of Shelton when he mentioned that she could revolutionize the country music industry with her earthy sound.

Ultimately, Shelton made the difficult decision to cut Caroline loose and keep Baker around for the sake of seeing her country side grow even more so in the next rounds. But the adventure for Caroline didn’t stop there as Alicia Keys utilized her final steal of the battles to make her the new addition to her squad with Shelton’s blessing.

The performance later earned kudos from Morris herself, currently vacationing on her honeymoon, who wrote “Amazing job, ladies. That’s not an easy song to sing, and I wrote the dang thing! Both did so well and made it your own!”

This episode compiled a few of the other head-to-head competitions, including the performance of “Mrs. Jones” by Austin Giorgio and Brett Hunter from Team Blake. Despite matching pretty equally in terms of vocal standings, Shelton goes with Giorgio into the knock-outs due to his confidence and readiness for what’s ahead.

The knock-out rounds of The Voice will air on Monday and Tuesday night next week at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
