With the semifinals on The Voice beginning next week, the contestants learned their fate if they were moving on during Tuesday night’s episode (5/8).

Tensions were at an all-time high as host Carson Daly read off the results from America’s vote at home. Blake Shelton came out scot-free with his team as Pryor Baird, Kyla Jade and Spensha Baker all going forward into next week’s competition. Team Kelly Clarkson also found themselves following the green light to go on into semifinal performances, with Kaleb Lee and Brynn Cartelli earning enough love from viewers.

Rayshun LaMarr, Christiana Danielle and Jackie Verna went to the bottom three and had to fight for the one open spot left in the top eight. LaMarr charmed the crowd with a modern take on Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On,” while Danielle laid it all on the line when she sang Joe Cocker’s “Unchain My Heart.” Verna let her country side do the singing on “I Told You So” by Carrie Underwood, and vied for her chance to qualify.

In the end, LaMarr beat out the ladies to join the rest of the semifinal group and continue representing Team Adam Levine as the only member left on that squad.

The show also let the contestants rave about their moms in celebration of Mother’s Day this Sunday. They all couldn’t say enough about the women that raised them up, even shedding a tear or two over the love they have for their mothers.

New episodes of The Voice air on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
