It was a humid and sweltering evening as the country stars lined up to walk the 2016 ACM Honors red carpet ahead of the music festivities for the night. While the artists dazzled in their awards show best, they also took the time between snapshots to come chat with Sounds Like Nashville for a bit.

Many artists in the country music industry showed up for the event including Cole Swindell, Luke Bryan, Cam, RaeLynn, Dan + Shay, Chris Young, Thomas Rhett and more. They all kept in mind the fact that the 10th Annual ACM Honors are all about showing some love for the people behind the scenes and the legends that have paved the way for country music to become what it is now.

“It’s not only honoring people like The Statler Brothers, of that stature, but also people that are behind the scenes,” Young said to SLN.

Taking the carpet alongside today’s hottest country artists were familiar faces from the past who were being recognized for their contribution to the genre and how they helped shape the music for fellow musicians to follow along.

“It just makes me feel like maybe I’m paving the way a little bit for some of these young acts,” explained Tanya Tucker, who was receiving the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award.

It wasn’t all business though as some of the artists got a little silly when it came to creating new off-camera-inspired award categories in relation to the fact that the 10th Annual ACM Honors would be aired for the first time on television this year.

Take a look at all the craziness surrounding the 2016 ACM Honors red carpet and see what your favorite stars had to say about the special night. To catch the broadcast of the awards show, be sure to tune in to CBS on September 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
