Brett Eldredge is back in the recording studio.

The forthcoming project will be his third major label release, following his self-titled debut and sophomore effort, Illinois. This time, however, the booming baritone decided to step into a studio that looks a bit different on the outside.

“There’s a studio in Nashville called The Castle and it’s a great studio. I wish it was a real castle… it’s been an amazing experience,” Eldredge told Sounds Like Nashville and other media recently. “We’ve been recording in the same places for a while now and decided let’s go somewhere different.”

That’s when he and producer Ross Copperman ventured out into the country to find a new place to record.

“[It was] like ‘who doesn’t want to record at The Castle?’” shared Eldredge. “It’s a legendary studio…it’s a great studio, a lot of history to it. It makes you want to record great music and that’s what we’ve been doing. It’s been a really special experience.”

While progress with the new album is still underway, the Illinois native is giving fans a taste of what’s to come with the project’s lead single, “Somethin’ I’m Good At.” The quick witted tune is one that fits the singer’s personality to a tee and came after a long day in the writing room.

“I get in the writing room sometimes very antsy…I pace the room a lot. I can’t also sit still and my brain is always working. If I get bored on something I have to jump to something else,” he explained. “Tom Douglas and I, who is like my favorite songwriter in the world, we’re writing a ballad that was for like five hours and I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. I gotta get my head out of this space.’”

The two put down the song they were working on and decided to play around with no rules and no regulations and write a fun, happy tune.

“I started strumming something on the guitar and we started coming up with these quirky lines, rhyming things in different ways and kinda telling my story of what my personality is, which is all over the place, and just try to give something that’s you know embracing your faults and making them beautiful,” he shared. “Embracing the randomness in my life… being clumsy and being okay with being clumsy or whatever. We’re all just people and we’re all just having fun, so I wanted to remind everybody of that and in the end that becomes endearing and that makes somebody smile…there’s somebody out there that’s gonna like you and love you for the crazy mess that you are and that’s what I’m always looking for and that’s why I wrote this song and I finally found something I’m good at.”

No official release date has been set for Eldredge’s third studio album, but fans can likely expect it to hit shelves later this year.
