You know it’s real when you get married again after 50 years of being husband and wife. Well, Dolly Parton thinks so.

Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, met in Nashville and two years later, they were officially married. Because she missed out on having that fairytale moment for her wedding back then, the couple has decided to tie the knot once more to celebrate their 50th anniversary on May 30.

To make up for lost time and a small wedding back in 1966, Parton has gotten all of the little details together to make their special day even grander than before.

“I’ll have a beautiful wedding dress, ‘cause I didn’t have a big, long wedding dress when we got married and we’ve got a suit for him, so we’re going to dress up and take a bunch of pictures,” Parton told PEOPLE.

Even taking pictures will be a monumental moment for the couple; their marriage has always been more on the private side, as Dean tries to stay away from the limelight.

“He doesn’t particularly care about being around anybody but me,” said Parton. “He’s just always asked me to leave him out of all this. He does not like all the hullabaloo.”

The photos taken will be sold for profit and all of the money made will go to Parton’s Imagination Library, which is a literacy charity she created to help children out with reading.

What does Parton credit for their marriage withstanding the toll of time? Moral support therein and out.

“He’s always been supportive. He’s like a brother and a father and a friend and a husband and a lover – all of those things to me. I think he’s kind of proud that we’ve been in it this long!”

It’s been a fun year for Parton; she also turned the big 7-0 and celebrated in her Nashville condo with gal pals and margaritas alike. She’s also announced a new album as well as going on tour, and was honored with the Tex Ritter Award at the ACM Awards.
