First impressions do matter, but Willie Nelson still thinks that his pal and fellow country icon, Loretta Lynn, should give marijuana another go-round.

Lynn, who tried the recreational drug last year at the age of 84 to ease her glaucoma symptoms, told People Magazine after her experimentation that she’d rather let glaucoma take over because of the unpleasant experience. Nelson isn’t trying to apply peer pressure, but he thinks that his friend should try a second hit before ruling it out completely.

“She’s got a lot of guts,” Nelson said during a recent interview with The Associated Press in Nashville. “She’ll try anything. Maybe I should help her.”

Nelson has always been known throughout the entertainment industry as a huge advocate for the legalization of the drug and even sells his own line of legal marijuana called Willie’s Reserve in both states of Colorado and Washington.

“You look and see the benefits,” he said in the interview. “You weigh them against the things that might possibly happen. I think marijuana is probably the safest medicine you can take. These new guys that are coming in there trying to shut it down, I don’t think they will be successful. People will say, ‘Hey wait a minute. Heroin, cocaine, OK. But it grows in the ground. It seems to be normal. Let it alone.’”

Nelson will soon star in a film directed by Woody Harrelson called Lost in London LIVE, where he will be performing a song live for the movie. Fans can check out the film when it comes out in theaters on January 19.
