Writing a Book Was Never on Scotty McCreery’s Radar

At the ripe old age of 22, Scotty McCreery will release his own memoir, Go Big or Go Home: The Journey Toward the Dream.

With the release of the book just weeks away, Sounds Like Nashville caught up with the budding author to learn more about his new composition.

“Writing a book was never on my radar screen,” McCreery told us. “I read books growing up for school and everything, but singing was my main gig and it always will be. But now I get to add the title of author, I guess, to my resume. It’s a whole lot different than writing a book. I have three minutes to write a song nowadays, to tell a story in three minutes. Now I have 278 pages, something like that.”

The process of writing the book allowed the North Carolina native to reflect on his life and the crazy things that have happened in his five years since winning American Idol.

“I travel a lot. I’m on the road. I’m writing music. I’m a busy guy every day so I don’t have time to reminisce a lot about what I’ve been able to do. I was telling stories in there that I haven’t thought of in years. It was fun to go back and laugh at those memories and sometimes they’re emotional memories. It was kind of just going back into that memory bank and pulling out some old stuff that is important and has a lot to do with why I’m here today but I’d kind of forgotten.”

Most of all, the “Southern Belle” singer just hopes people can relate to his short, but extraordinary story.

“I’m hoping this book can speak to all ages, you know, the young kids, the adults and then the grandparents even. I’m hoping everybody can get a little something from it. But it’s been fun to see they’re excited about it.”
