Mo Pitney recently gave a preview of his debut album, Behind This Guitar, to Music City when he played for a full house at the famed Station Inn venue.

The country newcomer looked comfortable on stage as he sang the parts that made up his first full-length album. His skill as a guitar player and vocalist were evident through out his entire performance. Under the spotlight he was backed up by his band, which also include his brother and sister, Blake and Holly, who play guitar and sing back-up vocals respectively.

Between songs, he shared stories of how the album came to be that showed off who he is when he’s not performing, including a doting husband who took a moment to showcase his pregnant wife Emily, who was adoring her man from the crowd.

He paid homage to the songwriters who helped pen the track list, including Dean Dillon who is a co-writer on the track “Take a Chance.”

“This is the song that I cheered [Dillon] on while he wrote,” Pitney explained to the crowd with a chuckle before he went on to perform it.

Mid-set, Pitney cleared the stage leaving only him and his acoustic guitar. In this intimate moment he shared versions of “Love Her Like I Lost Her,” which is included on his record, and a rendition of Don Williams’ song “If Hollywood Don’t Need You.”

Pitney opened up about his religious background in a touching way before he introduced the crowd to the gospel track on his record, “Give Me Jesus.”

“You probably know I’m a Christian, mostly because I haven’t learned how to shut up about it,” Pitney explained. “You experience a lot of wonderful things in this life, the majority of the record is about those things. I would trade everything everything I can see with my eyes, for the one I can’t. And I know Him. He changed my life, I was in the pits of hell, this is a song about my King.”

The title track of the album, “Behind This Guitar,” was an obvious special moment in the performance. The song sums up Pitney in a way that makes him relatable and evident that he is going so many places in his music career.

“Behind this guitar there’s just a boy who had a dream in his heart,” the chorus sings. “Behind this guitar is just a guy that can’t believe he got this far.”

Pitney’s album was released earlier this month and is available for purchase now HERE.
