Although the CMT Music Awards are known for their casual dress code on the carpet, the country community still took the celebration nod to dress to the nines during last night’s ceremony.

From some stars trying out the trends to going back to basics on their looks, the gray carpet proved that Nashville knows a thing or two about glamming it up for those special nights out on the town. The ladies held great pride in their accessories (baby bumps were on major display) and the guys vamped up the traditional suit look with bold hues and clean cuts working together for a strong statement.

Many artists donned some stunning ensembles, while others missed the mark just a tad on their fashion choices. See which musicians made a fashion faux pas and who scored a gold star for their style selections at the 2017 CMT Music Awards.

Best Dressed

Luke Bryan

I mean, come on. When doesn’t Luke Bryan look good? The man could wear a trash bag and the ladies would still be begging for him to shake his hips over their way. Bryan definitely did not get ready ‘Fast’ as he put effort into his classic black suit ensemble with a maroon tie to boot. To top it all off, those pearly whites have us swooning hard.

Carly Pearce

‘Every Little Thing’ about Carly Pearce’s peach-and-cream number made us wish we could steal this dress for our own closet! The delicate floral embroidery meshes beautifully with the lacy skirt and the mesh cutouts only create a gorgeous breezy vibe in a chic manner.

Miranda Lambert

It’s back to black for Miranda Lambert as she rocked a long-sleeved mini with embellished cutouts along the waist. Playing matchy-matchy in all its glory, the “Vice” singer kept hold of a silver encrusted clutch to go with her black bedazzled strappy heels. Only thing she needs now is a pair of “Pink Sunglasses,” right?

Brooke Eden

Two words: THOSE. PANTS. Although Brooke Eden went along with the black-on-black tone for the night, she dazzled up the basic shade with flowy jeweled flares ready to boogie down. Her off-the-shoulder crop top and choker combo with a slicked back hairdo proves that simplicity reigns supreme.

When it’s summertime, why not go down the tropical route? Dan Smyers from Dan + Shay combined the best of a vacation and formal look with a Hawaiian-inspired short-sleeved button-down with a tailored pant and chestnut dress shoes complete with side buckles. Smyers knows ‘How Not To’ mess up his style on the gray carpet.

Worst Dressed

Katherine Heigl

Katherine Heigl may be a mother, but that shouldn’t mean she needs to follow the matronly look. While the bright tangerine tango hue of her gown came just in time for summer, the excess chiffon on the sleeves and the semi-ruffled neckline reminds us of an elderly vibe. Save the grandma look for when you actually become one and embrace your youthful glow!

RaeLynn

Is it just us or does the material on RaeLynn’s dress look like it was ripped out of a retro 70s sofa? The mixture of orange, gold and maroon just doesn’t mesh together and the ruffled one-shoulder design doesn’t distract us one bit from the off-putting palette. While her personality always makes us smile, this dress just doesn’t charm the eye.

Brandi Cyrus

Pretty sure Brandi Cyrus mixed up her Bonnaroo wardrobe with what to wear at the CMT Awards. The army green high-low skirt seems to be reminiscent of the days when those khaki zippered cargo pants ruled the early 2000s. Besides, that sparkly black bralette would have shined bright paired with some tapered trousers or a pretty mini.

Braids on Brian Kelley? Underneath his safari style hat, it looks as though he’s hoping to get free Frostys for life by channeling the Wendy’s logo girl. Tyler Hubbard didn’t do the duo justice either as he dressed like a elderly man on his way to his upcoming doctor’s appointment. FGL just missed the mark this time around.

Russell Dickerson

Let’s play the game of what doesn’t belong…oh, wait. Russell Dickerson’s whole look seems as though he rushed out with four ideas of looks in mind and decided to take a gamble on a piece from each. From maroon trousers to awkward cigarette loafers, Dickerson needs to get a little more decisive whenever he hits the carpet again.
