How To Wear Faux Fur and Not Feel Like a Crazy Person

The Music City native has so graciously committed to guest-blogging for Sounds Like Nashville. Here’s her second installment…How To Wear Faux Fur and Not Feel Like a Crazy Person.

So….celebs everywhere are donning wild faux fur pieces this season and you’re wondering if you can pull it off. Personally, I think faux fur can quickly go from fabulous to frightening, and no one wants to feel like they’re turning heads for all the wrong reasons. So, let’s follow the lead of some of our favorite country women and embrace the faux fur trend…but without going off the deep end. Here’s how Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Nettles, Karen Fairchild, Kacey Musgraves, and Jana Kramer styled their faux fur moments:

1) If you’re feeling a little apprehensive, opt for a neutral color without too much pattern. In my opinion, even a pastel will do. Heartloom ivory coat, navy zip up, grey faux fur.

2) Remember that leopard is actually a neutral. Mid length leopard (left), notched collar leopard (middle), leopard driving coat (right).

3) You don’t have to go all the way! Choose a jacket or coat with a fur collar. Faux leather with tan collar, black on black collar, double breasted with tan collar.

4) Or try a vest! It can feel like less of a commitment because you can layer it lots of different ways…even just peeking out from under jacket. Brown zip vest (ON SALE), LL Bean puffer vest, black cropped vest.

And, if you want to go for a bold color, just make sure the scale of the coat is appropriate. I love this one because it’s a little bit slouchy and isn’t bulky. I don’t feel like I’m making an overly loud statement even though it’s a bright color. You can glam it up, like I did here, or you can throw it on over jeans and a tee.
