Kelleigh Bannen’s Little Black Dress Redux

EMI recording artist Kelleigh Bannen recently launched a new blog, This Nashville Life, where she dishes on all things about her “favorite city in the whole world,” as well as music business happenings, fashion, beauty, fitness, end much more. The Music City native has so graciously committed to guest-blogging for Sounds Like Nashville. Here’s the first installment…A Little Black Dress Redux!

This time of year can be particularly tempting if you’re just out and about doing your Christmas shopping. If you’re like me, it’s easy to make an impulsive choice because you happen to see something and think, “I really need something to wear to that Christmas party, or for NYE.” Well, rather than succumb to buying something too seasonal or overly festive—that you’ll really only wear for Christmas or a New Years Eve event—why not nab a new Little Black Dress (or as I’m wearing here a LBJ?) 🙂

Here’s why: you’re more likely to wear it throughout the year, and there are a million ways to make a LBD festive for a holiday party. AND you won’t find yourself wondering, “Where in the world am I going to wear that evergreen sequin dress that seemed soooo fabulous on Dec 13th, or that santa red cocktail number that seems way too bright come Jan 2nd?”

So…here is my LBD Redux: some new twists on the Little Black Dress, that will keep you on trend without being TRENDY!

1) Edgy details (From cutouts to fringe, here are some ways to edge it up!) Off The Shoulder Dress, Fringe Midi Dress, Long Sleeve Cut Out, High Neck Eyelet Shift.

2) Midi Length (I love this look because it’s a way to do bodycon, but still be sophisticated.) Off The Shoulder Midi, Deep V-Neck (Steal alert!!), Cap Sleeve w/Side Cut Outs, Jersey Asymmetrical.

3) The LBJ (Little Black Jumpsuit…as I like to say, the jumpsuit is the ‘snuggie’ of fashion. Super comfortable!) Cutout Jumpsuit, Wide Leg Lace Illusion, Gold Belted Jumpsuit (splurge!!), Faux-Wrap Cami (looks better on :)).

4) Lace (Lace is always in, but here are some fresh ways to do a lacey black dress.) Mock Neck Lace (major steal!), Lace Panel Dress (splurge!), Boho Lace Skater Dress, Jeweled Lace.

IMG_5507 LASTLY, here are some suggestions on how to take the LBD to holiday party status: red lips, metallic eyeshadow, statement shoe, or a festive bag. Let us know what you’re loving in the comments! XO
