“I didn’t win an award, but I did make the front page of the paper the next day," Reba laughed.

Reba is known for plenty of important accolades in country music. She’s won countless ACM and CMA Awards, been nominated for Grammy Awards left and right and even made musical statements throughout a handful of decades in her career. But there is one moment even the country queen could not forget.

Yes, that iconic red velvet dress she donned during her on-stage performance at the 1993 CMA Awards.

With a beautiful plunging neckline covered in a rich, red mesh and sparkling silver rhinestones scattered around the bustier, it made quite the statement at that show and Reba still remembers the reactions she received upon her grand arrival on stage. While she didn’t understand the fashion impact it would have at the time, it definitely marks a strong moment in the style that country singers sport on the red carpet.

“It was very revealing and I didn’t know that!,” Reba said in an exclusive interview with People Magazine. “I had only had two fittings with [designer] Sandy Spika. One was at our office and I said, ‘I think you need to fill some more stuff in!’ When I put it on in the dressing room at the Grand Ole Opry for the show, I thought, ‘Maybe it’s just the lighting in here.’ And when I walked out on the stage, I heard the audience go ‘Oooooh!’ And I thought, ‘Dang, I look good!’”

“I didn’t win an award, but I did make the front page of the paper the next day!” she added.

While it’s still a mystery to know what Reba (or any of the other stars) is wearing on the carpet this year, it can be said that the country star knows how to make the perfect statement for any occasion.

The 50th Annual CMA Awards will air live from the Bridgestone Arena in downtown Nashville tonight at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
