Cassadee Pope displayed her #BrilliantSmile at last week’s CMA Awards, where she dazzled on the red carpet in a sheer, one-shoulder gown. Prior to the show, we caught up with the “I Am Invincible” singer in the Colgate Optic White backstage lounge to chat about all things fashion & beauty.

Check out our exclusive interview with Pope below.

On Her Nightly Beauty Routine: It’s a rule. I always wash my face. I wipe off the makeup first, then I wash it. My skin is very sensitive, so if don’t do that I can end up waking up with some breakouts. I always brush my teeth with Colgate Optic White toothpaste, it’s just the best. I’ve been doing a lot of the whiting pen that’s attached to the toothbrush, and that’s been incredible. I’ve seen the results within a few days, so it’s fun to see the improvement.

On Partnering With Colgate Optic White: My family has always been really about smiles. It’s always been the type of thing that if you are confident in your smile, you are going to be able to pull off any outfit, you are going to be confident in any room, and it’s really true. Especially after using the Colgate Optic White Line, I feel like it’s my best accessory and I can walk anywhere… down the street or the red carpet and feel really good about myself.

On Her Fashion Icon: I’ve always been a huge fan of Shania Twain. She rocked that crop top look before anybody. I thought that was just so awesome and sporty, but sexy at the same time. So that’s always stuck with me. She’s always mixed leather and lace really well, so that’s also been my thing through the years. Shania is kind of like my goddess.

On Her Personal Fashion: I would go back to leather and lace. I was a tomboy, but I would go on stage and dress up a little bit, so I kind of always had those two worlds in my style. On stage, if I’m wearing a prissy kind of skirt, I will wear a t-shirt or crop top to kind of rock it up with some rocker stilettos. I just like mixing it up and showing my personality as best as I can.

On Doing Her Hair & Makeup: I use my hair and makeup stylist, Neil Robeson, when I do events like this, the CMA’s, or press in New York City. But for tour, I travel so much and it’s kind of my time to be able to sit down and do my hair and makeup. I usually allot about 2 hours for it, just so I can take my time and not rush through it.

On Selecting The Perfect Red Carpet Look:  The thing that I have been focusing on this year is really establishing my style and making sure that I am telling a story with my outfits. This time, I really wanted to go with something sheer because it’s kind of trendy and I love the look. My dress is definitely form fitting, it’s got the mermaid cut, but its sheer and its asymmetrical and it’s really going to showcase the dress and the smile of course.

On Her Best Beauty Advice: I think that the fans, and people in general, need to accentuate their imperfections, what they think are imperfections. It’s what makes us all so unique. For the longest time, I was kind of self-conscious about my two front teeth because they are a little longer than the other ones and a few mean girls in school said I looked like a beaver. So that kind of upset me a little bit. Over the years, I did grow into them, but it makes me look the way I look. Imagine me completely stripping my teeth and getting straight across teeth, I’d look different and I don’t want to look different. I want to look like me. So I try to push that message onto my fans because they are all beautiful and I see their positivity that they are spreading to each other and it just makes me really proud.
