Country crooner Brett Young and legendary R&B group Boyz II Men took the stage tonight in Nashville for the 2019 CMT Music Awards, performing an extra-smooth rendition of Young’s latest No.1, “Here Tonight.”

All about living in the romantic moment, the original track has never been lacking a suave cool factor. But with Young joined by his CMT Crossroads collaborators, “Here Tonight” was even smoother than usual, dripping with soul and featuring a thick wall of harmony — plus and a cello.

In between rich swells of four-part vocal passion, Young let his guests get comfortable on the song’s big second chorus, and even stepped away so Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman and Wayna Morris could take the track’s memorable bridge themselves. Then they all regrouped, finishing the hit out in relaxed confidence.

Young and Boyz II Men were most recently part of the network’s CMT Crossroads cross-genre collaboration series, where they performed songs from both their collections, and a cover of Lonestar’s “Amazed.”

Young’s newest single “Catch” appears on his Ticket to L.A. album and is out now.
