Through each season of The Voice, the coaches call up their industry friends for some help on giving tips to their respective teams. Kelly Clarkson turned to none other than Voice alum and country singer Cassadee Pope for some upcoming advising during the knockout rounds of the competition.

Pope understands what it’s like for the potential singers since she was just in their shoes as a contestant not too long ago. Earning her spot in the country music community and working hard thanks to the wisdom she gained from her time on the reality singing show, Pope couldn’t wait to mentor this year’s group and return back to a familiar space that she admires so much.

“It was like coming home and they’re just a big family there. I love coming back. They’ve had me back a few times, which I’m so grateful for, but it was crazy to be advising people whose shoes I was in. I was in their place a few years back. It felt good, I felt like they were really absorbing what I was saying. Most of my advice was really just about keeping your nerves in check and making sure that you’re showing the audience who you are and you’re expressing yourself because you’re being voted on how you’re singing, but you also want people to like you and relate to you. You want to show people who you are,” Pope told Sounds Like Nashville during a recent interview.

Although Pope went Team Blake Shelton when she originally auditioned, working with Clarkson for the time being fulfilled a lifelong dream for the “Summer” singer. Not only did she get to contribute her own pointers, but Pope also learned so many tips from Clarkson that she plans to take with her into the next chapter of her own career.

“Spending the day with Kelly was a dream come true,” Pope gushed. “I’ve been a fan of hers forever, like since the first audition on American Idol I’ve loved her, and I’ve met her on a few occasions, got to sing with her on The Voice during my season, but to spend that much time with her and get to know her was really awesome because she’s just one of the nicest, down to earth people I’ve ever met, and I even learned some stuff from her from her mentoring the teams. It was fun.”

Pope will lend her advice to the contestants during episodes airing on April 2, April 3 and April 9. The shows will broadcast at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
