Vince Gill’s musical influence may soon earn a permanent spot among history as the singer has been nominated for a spot in the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame class.

The Songwriters Hall shared the list of nominees late Wednesday afternoon (11/7). In addition to Gill’s name making the short list of performing nominees, other acts include Missy Elliot, Mariah Carey, Chrissie Hynde, Mike Love, Jimmy Cliff, Jeff Lynne, Cat Stevens, John Prine, Lloyd Price, Tommy James and The Eurythmics (Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart).

Among the non-performing nominees was Dean Dillon, who has penned songs for George StraitToby KeithKenny ChesneyChris StapletonPam Tillis, Barbara Mandrell, Johnny Rodriguez, Gary Stewart, and more. Dillon’s life and legacy will be covered in the jukebox musical,  Tennessee Whiskey The Musical: The Story of Dean Dillon.

He joins fellow nominees Jack Tempchin, Jerry Fuller, Tom T. Hall, Roger Nichols and Dallas Austin, who wrote hits for TLC, Madonna, Monica, Pink and Boyz II Men.

The final category for the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame class includes non-performing songwriting duos. Those nominees include include P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri, Russell Brown and the late Irwin Levine, musical theater writers Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore, Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, Bobby Hart and the late Tommy Boyce.

To be eligible for induction, songwriters must have penned hit songs for at least 20 years.

Six songwriters will be inducted during the Hall’s 50th annual Induction & Awards Gala on June 13, 2019 in New York City. Members can vote for three non-performing and three performing songwriters until December 17.
