Russell Dickerson definitely lives by the slogan, “I get by with a little help from my friends.”

After years of building up his career in the country music industry, Dickerson finally made his break with the release of his hit single, “Yours.” When the fan build-up started to increase to a new level that Dickerson had never experienced before, he immediately looked for help from his buddies in Florida Georgia Line as well as a few other friends for their insider advice.

“It’s invaluable to have Brian [Kelley] and Tyler [Hubbard] who have toured for years,” Dickerson explained to Sounds Like Nashville exclusively during an interview. “They’ve built this career. I get to ask them anything about everything. Everything about anything. ‘When you hired this person, what was that process? When you let somebody go…When your song hit number one…’ All these cool questions. ‘When you were out touring on radio and all this stuff, what did you do? How did you get sleep?’ Just anything. It’s cool to have them as a sounding board. For me to be there for them as a sounding board too. They’re like, ‘When you get to this point in your career, this is what you should do because we messed up here.’ Learning from their mistakes, there’s no course or class that you can take anywhere that can substitute that information that they’ve given me.”

Dickerson soaks every word up as much as he can before he begins his meteoric rise to possibly become one of the top names in country music. Once he reaches that spot, though, he knows the one mantra to stick to just in case the control gets out of his hands.

“‘Don’t let anybody walk all over you.’ As more and more people start to get involved in my music and this business that I’ve created, don’t let people walk all over you because they’ll try to,” Dickerson revealed.

Dickerson just released his debut full-length album, Yours, with the title track making its way across country radio and up the charts.
