Dancing with the Stars: Lauren Alaina Goes ‘Under the Sea’ on Disney Night
DANCING WITH THE STARS - "Disney Night" - There will be Disney magic in the ballroom as nine celebrity and pro-dancer couples compete on the fifth week of the 2019 season of "Dancing with the Stars," live, MONDAY, OCT. 14 (8:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. (ABC/Eric McCandless) LAUREN ALAINA, GLEB SAVCHENKO

It has become one of the favorite nights for competitors on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars—the night they honor the magical, musical work of Walt Disney. And season 28’s installment of the now annual event was no exception. From the perfect songs and sets to the replica costumes, the performances were like a virtual visit to the house of the mouse.

Sailor Brinkley-Book and Val Chmerkovskiy

Viennese waltz – “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from Cinderella

Len Goodman: “I thought it was light and fluffy like a souffle. I would have liked a little, tiny bit more in hold, but having said that, I’m going to give you some advice. I want you in the rehearsal room tomorrow because there’s no way, after that performance, that you’re not back next week.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 24

Karamo Brown and Jenna Johnson

Samba – “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” from The Lion King

Bruno Tonioli: “I have to say, there was an ensemble section where you were in front surrounded by your pride and you really took it and attacked it like a leader. You should have kept that in the samba proper because you kind of fell back a little bit when you went on hold with Jenna. You were slightly behind and you need more elasticity. You don’t step a samba, you go through it…but great performance.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 21

Kate Flannery and Pasha Pashkov

Jazz – “A Spoonful of Sugar” from Mary Poppins

Carrie Ann Inaba: “I loved the way you started in quickstep to remind us how good you are because that’s a dance you really excelled at. You were so well-rehearsed. Every line, you guys are so in sync together, you’re such a powerful couple, I love watching you dance.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 24

Sean Spicer and Lindsay Arnold

Quickstep – “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story

Len: “Believe it or not, Sean, you’ve got a friend in me. I watched it very carefully. You did nice heel leads on the slow, on the forward steps, which I like to see. Your frame was pretty good, There was plenty of stuff in hold. You didn’t take the easy route and mess around. There was a lot of stuff in hold, congratulations on that. Don’t get over-excited because there’s still a ways to go, however, it was a proper dance. Well done.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 19

Ally Brooke and Sasha Farber

Contemporary – “Beauty and the Beast” from Beauty and the Beast

Bruno: “My darling, I have to thank you because you gave us, even Len actually, one-and-a-half minutes of absolute happiness…what I like about you, you throw yourself into it with fearless commitment. You give it all you’ve got. We were watching with Tom. I mean, every expression, every feeling, every moment totally a hundred percent. You’re such an honest performer.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 27

Lauren Alaina and Gleb Savchenko

Samba – “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid

Carrie Ann: “You look like a Disney princess right away. You got one of the hardest dances to get. The samba is one of the most difficult, next to the quickstep, I believe, because the bounce is such a weird thing ‘cause if you don’t get it right in the beginning, you’re off the whole dance. You had that bounce, it was fantastic. You had the smooth, you had the ooze, you had the strength. Every once in a while, you did some weird arms, I’m not sure what that was…but what I love is you are still moving forward, you are still growing, it was wonderful.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 23

Kel Mitchell and Witney Carson

Jazz – “We’re All in This Together” from High School Musical

Len: “Kel, that was a dance that really suited you. Well done!”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 26

Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten

Foxtrot – “A Whole New World” from Aladdin

Bruno: “Radiant and enchanting. It really was like being on a magic carpet ride that you wanted to go on forever and ever. I’m sure the footwork was good, but there was so much fog, I couldn’t see it. So, I suppose it was fantastic.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 25

James Van Der Beek and Emma Slater

Paso doble – “He’s a Pirate” from Pirates of the Caribbean

Carrie Ann: “That was insane. The drama, the dynamics, the energy exchange between you two is off the charts…it was so dynamic, so good. This was your dance, truly.”

JUDGE’S TOTAL: 26

Fortunately for the couples, the only elimination held on Disney night was that of the elimination round. All of the couples are moving forward to week six of the competition.
