X Factor Recap: Four Chair Challenge Week 2 – Boys and Groups

The X Factor kicked off its second week of the Four Chair Challenge on Wednesday (10/9) with the boys category.

Mentored by judge Paulina Rubio, the boys were put through a round of ups and downs, especially following the return of an eliminated singer. No country acts remain in the boys category, but Rubio’s Top 4 boys include Tim Olstad, Carlito Olivero, Carlos Guevara, and Josh Levi.

Finally, Simon Cowell was able to show off his Groups category.

Zach Beeken, Andrew Scholz and Colton Pack originally signed up for the competition as solo artists. Following their elimination, all three were brought back and were put into a group, which they named Restless Road. The “country man band” was thrilled for their second chance and spent a lot of time together getting to know each other. They’re taking their second chance to show everyone what they’re made of.

For their performance, the trio sang Keith Urban’s “Somebody Like You.” They had the audience (and judges) dancing and singing along. The song ended with a standing ovation from all four judges and the entire audience.

Judge Kelly Rowland kicked off the judges commentary by saying, “Wow, guys! You guys are such an incredible country trio. This was a brilliant idea.” Rubio added “I completely love you three. The different vocals blend so well. You guys are amazing.” “I am so excited right now. When I heard you all singing in the beginning, I just got chills all over my body because it’s so right,” Demi Lovato told the trio, adding “Simon, I hate to say it, is a genius for putting you guys together.”

Simon Cowell was equally as impressed with his idea to form the group. “One of the most nervous things I did in this competition was waiting for you to agree to be in this group because I was so sure this was gonna work. But for it to work, you’ve got to have two things. You’ve got to have talent and you’ve got to have friendship. And I saw both things tonight. I’m really impressed.”

Cowell gave Restless Road a seat… but would they last through the rest of the groups?

Yellow House Canyon took the stage Thursday night (10/10). The Lubbock, TX natives sang Pistol Annie’s “Hell on Heels.” Rowland told the girls following their performance that she loved them. “I feel like you have such great energy to give out.” Lovato agreed, but told the duo (made up of Tatum and Monique) that Tatum had a better voice and Monique would have to work hard on her voice. Their mentor Cowell said I liked your first audition very much. You’re not the best singers in the world, so I’m kind of on the fence about you.”

However, Cowell decided against Yellow House Canyon and sent them home.

After an intense round of competition, Restless Road was safe and made the Top 4. Joining them in the groups category will be Alex & Sierra, Roxxy Montana and Sweet Suspense.
