Although Carrie Underwood has become a household name within the music world, there’s always been a bit of mystery about what lies beneath the surface of the Oklahoma native.

While the country singer seems to be pretty open to chatting about anything, from family to style to workouts, there are still some things even longtime fans of the superstar may not know about her.

  1. She was a resident brace-face 

Her pearly whites didn’t come easy. “I had bad teeth, too,” she told People Magazine. “I had to get braces [more than once]. I actually had them on the bottom for like three months while I was doing red carpets, but no one knew – so I felt like I had a secret.” 

  1. Scary movies are her go-to

The gorier, the better when it comes to Underwood’s film choices. Surprisingly enough though, she keeps the thriller stuff to the screen as she admits to not being much of a daredevil.

Hidden on her hips, Underwood keeps it rather hush-hush when it comes to her tattoos.

As a small town girl, the country singer never went on a plane until she made it to Hollywood on American Idol.

“I’m happier,” Underwood revealed to People. “I’m in a better mood a lot of the time. He’ll be watching cartoons and I’ll be watching him. I’m completely in love. I love it when he’s sleepy and I get to hold him and smell him. He doesn’t know I’m staring at him and being all googly-eyed!”

Many years ago, Underwood could have been seen on the arm of Crawford, who played teen heartthrob Upper East Sider Nate Archibald in the hit television drama, Gossip Girl. The two eventually split and Underwood found the man of her dreams in Mike Fisher.
