Rising country singer Alyssa Trahan is spotlighting domestic abuse and a toxic relationship in her dark music video for “Ain’t Ever Goin’ Back.”

On the heartbreak anthem, Trahan and co-writer Tony Lucca detail a challenged relationship that’s hanging on a fraying thread for dear life. “We didn’t come this far just to come this far / Didn’t keep it all together just to let it fall apart / Didn’t get here just to turn around / Didn’t climb this mountain just to let em take us down,” Trahan sings on the chorus over a chest-thumping production.

The accompanying video, however, takes the meaning of the track to a whole new level. Trahan plays the protagonist—a woman who has stayed in an unhealthy relationship for far too long. In the clip, the lady recalls past disputes she’s had with an ex and the various incidents that have tormented her for a long time. While the ending is no doubt a shocking twist of events, it is one that also highlights the character’s strength and courage to stand up for herself.

“This is the most cinematic video I’ve ever done and I’m so excited for everyone to see it! The song is all about empowerment, so I wanted the video to echo that,” Trahan tells Sounds Like Nashville. “It was filmed, directed and edited by Codi Castle (Castle Sound Co.) and filmed at a few locations around Nashville. I wrote the song with Tony Lucca a few months back and right away I could see a powerful music video for it. I’m so glad we were able to bring it to life!”
