Singer/songwriter Bastian Baker is a musical staple in his home country of Switzerland. The crooner has cemented himself among the country’s musical landscape enough to be a former coach on The Voice Switzerland. But now, Baker hopes to break through the American country scene.

Baker landed his first big break stateside after getting invited by Shania Twain to perform as her direct support on her worldwide NOW Tour. During the trek, he released his American self-titled debut album.

Featured on the record is a song called “Blame It On Me,” co-written by the singer and fellow Swiss songwriter Caroline Marquard. Quickly becoming a fan favorite, Baker decided to record an acoustic video to accompany the track, of which Sounds Like Nashville has the exclusive premiere.

“I love how personal it is to perform acoustic. Back home, I’m almost always performing with my full band,” he explained to SLN. “This past year I had the incredible opportunity to travel the globe on the Shania tour introducing myself to many new audiences – including the U.S. – with just my guitar. I feel it’s the most honest way to introduce yourself as an artist to a new audience.”

With a catchy tempo and heart-aching lyrics like “Blame it on me, I’ll blame it on you / It’s always the same, we’re breaking the rules/ If I hurt you bad, you’re just gonna hurt me back / Love is unfair, life is a  game / Still don’t know how we want to play / If you hurt me bad, it’s just gonna hurt right back,” Baker couldn’t be more proud of the life the song has taken on amongst his fans.

“We’re particularly proud of all the metaphors that are at play throughout the song,” he said of his writing session with Marquard. “The song is my first release to the Country genre and I’m thrilled with all the positive feedback it’s received! I hope fans enjoy the new acoustic track and video.”
