Country music superstar Billy Ray Cyrus and singer-songwriter Johnny McGuire (previously from duo Walker McGuire) have teamed to release a new single, “Chevys and Fords.” The song, penned by McGuire, Jordan Walker, Rodney Clawson and Ben Hayslip, takes listeners on a trip down life’s journey and all their “chevys and fords” have seen.

The mid-tempo tune almost personifies the aforementioned vehicles, and shines a light on the constant companionship these four-wheel drives have been. Both Cyrus and McGuire’s vocal delivery bolster the lyrical plausibility and emotions entailed to the nostalgia, too.

“They were red, white and rusty, all dented up and dusty / They were sitting in that church parking lot every Sunday / Out in front of the bars or parked under the stars with a girl in your arms / Who don’t want nothin’ more than a guy from a long line of Chevys and Fords,” they sing.

Although Cyrus has been topping the worldwide music charts lately with his collaboration with Lil Nas X on the viral “Old Town Road,” he stresses that he still is, at the core of it all, a rooted country artist.

“No matter how you slice it, I’m still Billy Ray Cyrus from Flatwoods, Kentucky and I love country music. And I love a great country song.” Adding further, Cyrus said that having a new single out for him is like a “full circle moment.” “It’s like starting a new band. I’m so grateful and humbled just to be here,” said Cyrus.

And for rising country artist McGuire, he can’t help but be thankful too for the opportunity to collaborate with Cyrus. “Billy Ray is a living legend and I’m so honored to be able to work on this project with him. His support has been incredible and I’m so grateful.”
