Blake Shelton has some big things coming up — as in, a brand new album and a marriage to pop superstar Gwen Stefani. And during a surprise guest hosting gig on NBC’s Today With Hoda & Jenna on Wednesday (March 31), the good-natured star opened up about his plans.

Speaking with co-anchor Hoda Kotb, Shelton admitted that yes, he and Stefani are closing in on a date for their wedding. So far, it’s “hopefully this summer,” he says, since he and Stefani hope to get some quality time before his demanding music and TV schedule comes roaring back.

“Now, I think we’re right here at the point with COVID, it looks like it may be okay, but I don’t know. So that’s tentatively the plan,” he says. “I’m afraid if she and I wait until next November, then I’m right back into The Voice cycle again,” he observes. “And I really want to be able to have plenty of time before and after.”

Meanwhile, the superstar hinted that his post-wedding future may look much different, and that he may be getting ready to leave The Voice altogether. Shelton’s been starring on the popular show since its premiere in 2011, but when Kotb speculated that he and Stefani would retire to his Oklahoma ranch within the next 10 years, but Shelton sounded like it may come sooner.

“I hope that’s not too far down the road,” he said with a laugh. “Ten years sounds like way too long to me. I’d like to see that sooner than later. … I mean, we both pretty much taken it to the limit as far as our careers go and touring and now the television thing. It’s been fortunate to accomplish a lot of things. But, hopefully, at some point, we get a chance to live some life.”

Well, until that day comes, it’s full steam ahead for Blake Shelton and his career. He’s currently co-coaching on Season 20 of NBC’s The Voice, which will add pop superstar Ariana Grande to the coaches lineup for its next season. Plus, his recently announced album Body Language is set for a May 21 release, and he teamed up with Smithworks for a Hard Seltzer Lemonade perfect for this summer.
