Rock legends Bon Jovi get a helping hand in a new version of their supportive single, “Do What You Can,” enlisting country’s Jennifer Nettles for a musical call to service.

Teaming up for a socially-conscious duet, the supportive rocker is all about coming together in times of need — an uptempo anthem to making the best of bad situations. Front man Jon Bon Jovi and the Sugarland star filmed an updated video in the eerily quiet New York City to go with it, full of positivity and celebrating the human spirit, as they preach the gospel of “every little bit helps.” The timely track was originally written as COVID-19 was bringing the world to its collective knees, with Bon Jovi getting struck by a real-life lightning bolt of inspiration.

The icon spent the early weeks of the shutdown helping out at his JBJ Soul Kitchen Community Restaurant in Red Bank, New Jersey, doing just what his empowering new single suggests. And after his wife posted a photo with the caption “If you can’t do what you do… do what you can,” the song sprung to life.

“When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can / This ain’t my prayer it’s just a thought, I’m wanting to send / ‘Round here we bend but don’t break, down here we all understand / When you can’t do what you do, you do what you can,” goes the empowering chorus.

Bon Jovi and Nettles first collaborated in 2005 on the track “Who Says You Can’t Go Home,” and their respective bands also paired for an episode of CMT Crossroads that same year. “Do What You Can” (the original version, not the duet with Nettles) will appear on Bon Jovi’s new album, 2020, out October 2.
