Canaan Smith pops the top on a classic-country throwback for his first radio single since 2017, cracking open “Colder Than You” today (June 5).

A slow grooving, tear-in-your-beer waltz for the modern era, Smith co-wrote the track with Corey Crowder and Jared Mullins about a theme that echos through the ages. Featuring steel guitar, fiddle, and even some well-placed yodeling, the twangy two-stepper finds Smith lamenting the girl who did him wrong — and the frosty-refreshment that set things right.

Girl, I ain’t drowning your memory / These mountains are all that’s in here gettin’ blue / Baby, I might’ve finally found something colder than you,” goes the buzzy, dive-bar loving chorus.

Hinting at things to come, Smith also co-produced the track with Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley (his new Round Here Records label bosses), and “Colder Than You” marks follow up to the 2019 career restart which included “Country Boy Things,” “Beer Drinkin’ Weather,” “Life Ain’t Fair” and “Pour Decisions.” The “Love You Like That” hitmaker says he expects to unveil more new music in the coming months.
