Carly Pearce turns her latest video into a tongue-in-cheek dating seminar, teaching viewers how to avoid romantic pitfalls with her new single, “Next Girl.”

Filmed in a beloved Nashville dive bar and directed by Seth Kupersmith, the clip has a little fun with the frustrating reality of looking for love. In between shifts as a waitress and getting onstage to perform, Pearce endures a cavalcade of boasting, pickup line-dropping losers, all the while seeing through their childish games. But to find a good man she’s got to keep taking applications, and Pearce wanted other women to know she’s got their back.

“This video was so fun to make! I feel like most of us have either been on the receiving end of these ridiculous advances or have witnessed them,” Pearce explains. “And while I truly hope the lyrics help the ‘next girl’ know that a jerk’s actions are not her fault, I also wanted to mix some of the often experienced pick-up techniques with a little humor. Come on, do these really work?!”

Carly Pearce co-wrote the cautionary tale with hit makers Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, further honing an upbeat sound that pulls from the empowered country females of the ’90s — names like Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood, Faith Hill and more. The track arrives following Pearce’s recent divorce from fellow country singer Michael Ray, and arrives as her career picks up steam. She just scored her second career Number One with “I Hope You’re Happy Now” (with Lee Brice), and is nominated in four categories at the upcoming CMA Awards — New Artist of the YearSong of the Year, Musical Event of the Year and Video of the Year.
