Carly Pearce came away as a winner at the 57th ACM Awards on Monday, March 7, taking home the trophies for Female Vocalist of the Year and Music Event of the Year for “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” with Ashley McBryde. The singer, who had a standout year with the release of her album, 29: Written In Stone, won the Female Vocalist trophy for the first time after being nominated in 2021. After her win, she expressed gratitude about joining the ranks of former winners.

“So many of my heroes have won this award, and I think, just the last year has blown my mind,” she shared with reporters in the ACM Press Room. “It’s really hard to put into words what it means, but I hope that this industry and this genre knows that country music is all I’ve ever wanted. I’ve always dreamt of this moment, and I will never, ever take that for granted. I think that going down as one of the women that won this is just the most special, sacred thing. I will cherish this forever.”

The night also saw wins from some of Pearce’s fellow female artists, including Miranda Lambert, who won Entertainer of the Year and Video of the Year. The women of country music also shared powerful performances throughout the night, and Pearce shared that she is proud to see her fellow females shine.

“I’m just so proud to be in this class of women,” she says. “It just feels so good to see people I admire, and also people I championed, win.”
