Hot off the biggest year of her still-accelerating career, CMA Female Vocalist of the Year Carly Pearce kicked off 2022 with something new. Appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, she unleashed “Diamondback” as the late night mainstay’s first musical guest of the year.

The lead track from her expanded 29: Written In Stone album, the dark honky-rocker with a femme fatale theme was written by Pearce with fellow country star Kelsea Ballerini, Tofer Brown and hit maker Shane McAnally — and it’s a twangy breakup anthem with fangs.

Emerging from the shadows of a smoky stage, looking coiled and ready to strike, Pearce and her band ripped through the venomous tale of love lost and the price of heartbreak. According to her, there’s nothing more deadly than a woman scorned, but Pearce’s personal revenge has been sweet.

“Out of such a dark time, light keeps pouring in with these songs,” she says. “I’m in awe how music fans in cities across the country have embraced me. I truly can’t believe our first performance of the year was in the Fallon studio! My fans already shout all the words, but I hope a few more sassy voices will be singing along to ‘Diamondback’ with us now. What is that they say about a woman scorned?”

“Keep the house, keep the truck / Go downtown, get too drunk / Kiss a one-night stand with a butterfly on her back / Take the bed where you used to lie / Keep the friends I never liked / And the happy ever after welcome mat / But you ain’t gonna get this diamond back / No, never ever gettin’ this diamond back / You can keep the dog and the Cadillac / But you ain’t gonna get this diamond back,” goes the hook.

This spring, Pearce heads back on the road to headline another leg of The 29 Tour, and after that she’ll be joining Kenny Chesney’s triumphant return to stadiums across the nation, appearing on the 2022 Here and Now Tour.
